What happened today?

What happened today?Is there an honest reasonable explanation out there? Large volumes have something to do with index funds selling? Then who's buying? Also how much more could the index funds have to turnover? nearly 2% of the stock sold today. If ISA is removed from the index, how quickly do the index funds sell their shares?
