TGX discovery - new emerald zone
TGX discovery - new emerald zoneThis proves the emeralds are not limited to Regal Ridge only and the favourable zone continues west, perhaps towards HMI properties?
VANCOUVER, Jul 20, 2004 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) --
True North Gems (TGX: TSX-V) announced today an important new discovery of emerald mineralization on Howdy Ridge one kilometre southwest of the known mineralized zone at the Company's Regal Ridge Project located in the Finlayson Lake District, Yukon, Canada.
The new discovery, named the Shadow Zone, consists of a number of large emerald-bearing quartz and tourmaline veins in float on the top of Howdy Ridge. Some of the samples are up to 10% emerald. The emeralds were located near quartz veins exposed in the Fyre Lake formation, host to the Regal Ridge mineralization. The Shadow Zone mineralization is described as coarse gem and near-gem quality emerald crystals 2mm to 3.5cm in length with excellent colour.
The new discovery was made by geologist Heather Neufeld while mapping and prospecting soil geochemical anomalies on Howdy Ridge as part of the Company's regional exploration work at Regal Ridge. Images of some of the Shadow Zone samples and a location map of the discovery are available for viewing on the Company's website at www.truenorthgems.com.
"This new discovery of emerald is significant for True North Gems in that it greatly enhances the potential of the Regal Ridge project" says William Rohtert, Chief Operating Officer of True North Gems. "The fact that current exploration is leading to significant new discoveries is a strong indication that the true potential and scale of the Regal Ridge emerald deposit will continue to grow as additional geochemical anomalies are investigated elsewhere on the property."
The new emerald discovery is only one of the important developments recently at the site. Geological mapping has confirmed that the prospective Fyre Lake stratigraphy, which hosts the Regal and Howdy Ridge emerald mineralization, is much more widespread than originally interpreted, including occupying a significant portion of the property to the west and southwest of the Regal Ridge emerald deposits. In this area, colourless beryl crystals to 2cm in length (a precursor to the formation of emeralds) were identified in quartz vein and quartz-tourmaline vein float in the Caribou Bowl area, on southeast Howdy Ridge, more than 500m SE of the newly discovered Shadow Zone.
