Dry Mill Optimization and Bulk Sampling Programme Top Priority
The activities of the Regina Commercial Demonstration Plant are focused on optimization of the Dry Mill valuable mineral recoveries, which will last until the end of May 2005. Some 33 tonnes of Heavy Mineral Concentrate (HMC) have been produced during optimization of the Wet Plant’s Gravity Circuit, which are now being used as feedstock for the Dry Mill operations. The objective this month is to increase the recovery of TiO2 minerals on the Primary Dry Circuit conductors.
The results from the live pipeline sampling programme for the month of January 2005 confirm that the total heavy minerals in the tailings solids fraction are in keeping with expectations.
Titanium Corporation has begun formulating criteria for selecting consulting engineers to help plan the development of the Fort McMurray Plant. Similarly, management is in the early stages of qualifying and formulating criteria for selecting suitable financial institutions to assist in funding construction of the Fort McMurray Plant.
Titanium Corporation’s commercial operation will be situated in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The Regina Demonstration Plant will remain as an ongoing research and development facility for the commercial plant, it will test material from other oil sand operations and it will serve as a training facility for future employees. Of Interest
Preliminary data for 2004 indicates that the titanium feedstock market was in overall deficit. The supply situation for individual feedstocks was somewhat variable with a significant deficit occurring for chloride-grade feedstocks that was only partially offset by a small surplus for sulfate-grade feedstocks*.
Titanium Corporation’s feedstock, which is currently being tested by downstream pigment manufacturers, is chloride-grade. Sulfate pigment production plants around the world are being phased out as environmental pressures increase and manufacturers are replacing their sulfate-grade feedstocks with chloride-grade feedstocks. *Source: TZMI Mineral Sands Report, February 2005
