ZTE drops Intel for Fuji/Wi-Lan SoCZTE Corporation and Fujitsu Collaborate on WiMAX-Compliant Technology
ZTE Joins the Growing Customer Base for the Fujitsu WiMAX SoC Solution
Broadband Wireless World, LAS VEGAS, April 21 /CNW/ -- Fujitsu
Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA), a world leader in complex system-on-chip
development and pioneer in the development of WiMAX broadband wireless access
semiconductor technology, and ZTE Corporation, the largest listed
telecommunications systems supplier in China, today announced that ZTE is
working with Fujitsu to deploy its WiMAX-certifiable equipment based on
Fujitsu's highly integrated WiMAX SoC, the MB87M3400.
The two companies have been collaborating to develop base station and
subscriber station equipment that complies with the 802.16-2004 fixed WiMAX
specifications. Fujitsu and ZTE will complete the full bring-up and
implementation of ZTE's WiMAX compliant systems.
As a founding and board member of the WiMAX Forum(TM), Fujitsu
Microelectronics America has been a leader in the industry-wide acceptance of
the IEEE 802.16 and ETSI HiperMAN wireless MAN standards, which are essential
for successful WiMAX deployment.
Fujitsu's WiMAX system-on-chip (see related announcement from FMA dated
April 21, 2005) is the high-performance, highly integrated MB87M3400 SoC that
incorporates the embedded processor and mixed signal technology. It is the
cornerstone for bringing the first wave of WiMAX-certified products to
cost-effective deployment in 2005.
"Our flexible and cost-effective business model with ZTE Corporation
enabled both companies to collaborate closely on ZTE's WiMAX-compliant product
development," said Keith Horn, senior vice president of sales and marketing
for Fujitsu Microelectronics America. "We are now discussing the collaborative
plan based on the mobile WiMAX technology."
"We are pleased with the relationship with Fujitsu and the support
provided," said James Jiang, president of ZiMAX Technologies. (ZiMAX is a
subsidiary of ZTE Corporation, dedicated to the development of IEEE
802.16-based products.) "Our team has been involved in system design based on
Fujitsu's WiMAX SoC. This collaboration will further enhance the relationship
between Fujitsu and ZTE for the promotion of the WiMAX technology globally."
