China factor
As far as the Chinese communist government playing havoc with western mining companies' mining rights on their soil is concerned, I personally can't see it happen, if at all, for many years to come.
If the chinese government's goal was to take over these future gold mines, they would certainly wait till most of these ore bodies have been brought into production, not before. (year 2014 and beyond)
The chinese need western mining expertise, capital, equipment, etc. to get these mines into production. If they prematurely change the rules too soon,( ie. get too greedy), they risk having a couple of dozen western mining companies cease all operations in their country. What would this accomplish?
They would be guilty of breaking international trade laws and would be barred from membership in the WTO (world trade organization) which they desperately need to continue their economic renaissance. More importantly, they would be no better off than when they started this whole business of letting in western companies to develop their mining industry.
IMHO, I think the 30% discount (because it's in communist China)is overblown.
What do you think?....
