RE: Negotiation is the keyTrypod, negotiations are supposed to be like a chess match. First one party leads off and then each party takes turns making their moves.
Thus Telus made the opening move over two months ago, and even enhanced it, before the TWU finally made their move in response last Wednesday.
The problem is that the TWU move was not according to game protocols since it did not make any movement (concessions) in the three key concern areas which Telus has clearly identified and which the news release the TWU issued last week stated they would address.
The TWU not only didn't address any of those three key areas but they also stuck in a bunch of significant enhancements elsewhere into their response ''move''.
Bargaining and negotiations are supposed to be all about concessions given by each side in turn.
Thus the way I see it is that the TWU actually never made a legitimate move yet in response to the Telus opening move.
So it is the TWU that still needs to make a legitimate move with some concessions in those three key areas of concern; and those are contracting out, work scheduling and mandatory overtime; in order for them to make up for their headfake response of last week.
The ball clearly has not left the TWU side of the table yet.
