RE: what a day

RE: what a daywonder if this might have an impact on lead prices...Teck Cominco to close B.C. smelter if employees strike Last Updated Fri, 15 Jul 2005 12:02:08 EDT CBC News Teck Cominco will shut down a lead and zinc smelter in Trail, B.C., if employees at the facility go on strike. The company issued the threat after members of the United Steelworkers locals 480 and 9705 said they gave the company strike notice on Friday. Pickets lines could be up as early as Tuesday. Contract negotiations between the union and the company broke down on Thursday. "We regret that talks have broken down and the impact that a possible work stoppage could have on our employees, their families, and the local communities," Teck Cominco spokesperson Mark Edwards said. The company said that if a strike occurs, its Trail Operations would be shut down in "a safe and systematic manner," adding that it is working with its customers to minimize any inconvenience. The two union locals represent more than 1,200 production, technical and clerical workers at the smelting operations in Trail.
