TSX SYMBOL: MDN July 28, 2005 MDN Northern Mining: Tulawaka Mine Produces 38,143 Ounces of Gold MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - July 28, 2005) - MDN Northern Mining (Minieres du Nord) (TSX:MDN) is proud to announce that the production from the Tulawaka Mine in Tanzania to the end of the second quarter was 38,143 ounces of gold. This production includes the period since the first gold pour on March 15, 2005 to June 30, which spans the first full quarter of commercial production. By June 30, 2005, a total of 172,658 tonnes of ore had been mined with an average grade of 8.19 g/t. The plant facilities processed 155,223 tonnes of ore at an average gold recovery of 96.11%. A new production record was registered during the month of June: 10,695 ounces of gold were produced, 1,113 ounces (11.6%) above budget, from 45,495 tonnes of ore processed, 14,495 tonnes (47%) above budget. There have been no environmental incidents at the mine, and Tulawaka has now registered 3.1 million man-hours worked without a lost-time accident. The current production forecast for the Tulawaka Mine in 2005 is 110,000 ounces of gold. The Tulawaka project is a joint-venture between MDN Northern Mining (30%) and Pangea Goldfields (70%), the project operator and a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of Barrick Gold Corporation.
