CANADIAN WORLD FUND: INVESTMENT UPDATE
Canadian World Fund Ltd. (CWF)'s net asset value (NAV) per share at July 31, 2005, was $5.74, resulting in a year-to-date NAV return of 4.6 per cent. This compares with the 4-per-cent return of the benchmark Morgan Stanley All-Country World Free Index, in Canadian-dollar terms, for the same period. The year-to-date market return for CWF's common shares to July 31 was 5 per cent.
For the 12 months ended July 31, 2005, CWF's NAV and market returns were 20.8 per cent and 16.7 per cent, respectively. The benchmark posted 7.9 per cent for the same period.
The geographic sector weightings of CWF's investment portfolio at market as of July 31, 2005, were as follows:
North America -- 37 per cent;
United Kingdom -- 27.4 per cent;
Asia -- 19.3 per cent;
Europe (excluding U.K.) -- 8.5 per cent; and
Other -- 7.8 per cent.
The top-10 investments, which comprise 28.7 per cent of the investment portfolio at market, excluding cash, as of July 31, 2005, were as follows:
Stanley Gibbons Group Ltd. (U.K.) -- 4.3 per cent;
Apple Computer Inc. (United States) -- 3.8 per cent;
Sprint Corp. (U.S.) -- 3.1 per cent;
Indiabulls Financial Services Ltd. (India) -- 3 per cent;
Grupo Financiero Banorte S.A. de C.V. (Mexico) -- 2.8 per cent;
March Networks Corp. (Canada) -- 2.5 per cent;
Pan-Ocean Energy Corp. Ltd. (Canada) -- 2.4 per cent;
HDFC Bank Ltd. (India) -- 2.4 per cent;
Corin Group PLC (U.K.) -- 2.2 per cent; and
Google Inc. (U.S.) -- 2.2 per cent.
