Basic Cogema info:
COGEMA Res. Inc. - Canada
URANIUM PRODUCTION IN CANADA
Created in 1992, COGEMA Resources consolidates the Group's Canadian mining operations, including those previously conducted under the names AMOK, Interuranium Canada and Urangesellschaft Canada.
COGEMA Resources is a wholly owned subsidiary of the COGEMA Group and a major component of its Mining Business Unit. The company specializes in uranium mining and exploration in Canada and owns mining properties, primarily in northern Saskatchewan province. There, COGEMA Resources operates the Cluff Lake (undergoing reclamation), McClean Lake ( in operation) and Midwest (under development) mines, of which it owns 100%, 70% and 70.5% respectively.
COGEMA Resources is also a partner in the McArthur (in operation) and Cigar Lake (under development) mines, in which it holds 30.2% and 37.1% of the shares respectively. These deposits are considered to be the richest known deposits in the world, both by their tonnage and by the high ore grade.
COGEMA Resources is the second largest uranium producer in Canada, after the Canadian company CAMECO.
The exceptional quality of its mining assets and the expertise of its personnel are central to the company's commercial strategy, which focuses on cost-competitiveness with continuing improvement of mining operations as well as environmental performance. COGEMA Resources is in the process of implementing environmental management systems that conform to ISO 14001. The McClean Lake site and the mineral exploration activities received the corresponding certification in 2000 and 2004 respectively. The company also has a large exploration program, especially in the Athabasca basin, to develop and diversify its reserves over the long term.
COGEMA Resources is headquartered in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. It employs 450 people, including 105 at Cluff Lake, 260 at McClean Lake and 20 for exploration activities. More than half of the site workers are from the northern part of the province, primarily of Aboriginal origin.
