torlon in guatemalaemailed Lori last nite in regards to the mudslides, here is her response. Thanks for the email Lori
Thank you so very much for your question the mudslides - thankfully
we have no Canadians on the ground in the area affected; however,
we have many Guatemalan friends and business colleagues - none that
I know of were in the mudslide area. I was in contact with the Ministry of Mines and
our contacts in Guatemala City today and they are all fine and report that the
farmers who live near our Torlon property near Huehuetenango should be OK.
We do use the Pan-American highway to access our Torlon zinc property, and it
is apparently washed out in several places. By the time we start our program in the winter
(we only start work once the rainy season is over), it will be cleared.
Of more immediate
concern given these mudslides are the remote villages - I know from driving into very remote areas
in the highlands looking at
zinc properties that it is very difficult to get to some of these places, even by helicopter.

I think it is important to get aid out to a group that is well-organized and
recognized - in this case direct financial contributions to the Red Cross
for assistance to Guatemalans affected by the mudslides. It has been a terrible
year for natural disasters around the globe.
Certainly contact us any time with questions or comments - Lori Walton
