How do video streaming sites make money? There are four primary ways in which video streaming sites make money. Downstream revenue. Video streaming sites that create original content and own the rights to that intellectual property my exploit it however they'd like for profit. Homestar Runner, for instance, sold t-shirts and other merchandise. Original programming such as Netflix's House of Cards or Orange is the New Black will be ripe for DVD sales, syndication and merchandise.
