Set-up

What a set-up... Samir sells $1.1 billion of assets, has a clean balance sheet... and now REITs are coming down in price just as he said he's feeling oppertunistic. Go ahead and shoot your shot Samir... this is what we've all been waiting for... *throws a popcorn in the air*

I agree, and in that he saw what I saw. This sector remaning toxic for a long time,  so he moved to cash, and he actually is better off buying public securities especially those with 7.5-8.5% dividends

This is an interesting point, RioCan just had their earnings call yesterday and they said that they sold some properties (including Strada, an apartment plus retail below in Little Italty Toronto near College and Bathurst) and they all sold well above NAV. The deep value is indeed in the public market REITs. All it takes is one big whale (ie. Blackrock, Brookfield, a pension fund or insurance ...more
