Alzheimer's ...

Was doing a little reading on Alzheimer's today.

Ended up at a TED discussion on YouTube by Mark Mattson from John Hopkins (Not to be confused with John B Matson who ATE may be working with on the academic side) ... about how fasting leads to improved brain power ... likely a mechanism in our bodies that kicks the brain into high gear for fear if starving to death.  Interesting.

Anyway ... one thing he said that stuck with me ... there are 5M people in the USA with Alzheimer's and by 2050, 50M people will likely have the disease.  If that translates globally in the same manner, there are 44M globally with Alzheimer's and that would mean by 2050 we're taking about 440M people.

There's a real need to find ways to deal with this thing.

Sure hope the ATE boys and girls are on this now.  We know that sulph hydration levels in the brain decrease with age and this problem is amplified in AD patients.  Bahavioural outcomes can be reversed by introducing H2S.

Kick her into high gear team !!!!  Less than 30 year and we're inundated with the problem.

True that re: fasting. That is a way to heal yourself people - so powerful and efficacious. However, most people like a palliative - hence H2S -

It's very interesting - likely related to a shift in energy source from glucose to ketone bodies. Ketones result in decrease metabolic oxidative stress and free radical production compared to glucose. Oxidative stress and impaired glucose metabolism are found in Alz patients. Depending on how H2S acts within the brain environment, there could be something there...way too early of stages to ...more

Yes - agreed. The H2S study I read talked about the GSK3B enzyme and when it is H2S deficient, it becomes over-attracted to a protein called Tau. Tau can change and tangle proteins in the brain, blocking communication between nerves.
