A very good interview with Chris Paul.  Some key points: 1) Considers the odds of success to be very high. 2) Hole 23-05 had the highest temperature phyllic alteration of all of the deep holes drilled (it is closest to the porphyry centre). 3) The Bornite blanket represents a second pulse of hypogene/hyrothermal mineralization.  It could have been remobilization of the pre-existing ...more

Great summary Retiredgeo.   RetiredGeo, perhaps the traces of biotite and magnetite in Hole 26 is the smoking gun that Belmont is the potassic center? From previous NR on hole 26:  "...potassic alteration is manifested as minor amounts of fine-grained biotite and magnetite as well as anhydrite/gypsum veinlets." While hole 5 may be higher grade, hole 26's ...more

If I call recall correctly said alteration was sparse in hole 26.  It is interesting but of such limited amounts that I'm not going to read too much into it.   If the Chalcocite at Belmont and the Bornite at hole 23-05 are part of the same hypogene enrichment event then temperature is increasing to the NW and Belmont will be something of a red herring.  Semi-massive ...more

I've looked at prior copper porphyry discoveries and it is possible that the Chalcocite can sit on top of the chalcopyrite/Bornite/etc... potassic core underneath.  Chris also mentioned that the enriched layer is Hypogene and not Supergene.

In the standard porphyry model supergene Chalcocite is above the hypogene Chalcopyrite-Bornite with the potassic core to one side and the unaltered porphyry underneath. This is not the standard porphyry model! The Bornite-Chalcocite? blanket is a second Hypogene/hyrothermal event which may post date the supergene mineralization.  If the Belmont Chalcocite is hypogene then there may be no ...more

Also we don't know how thick the Chalcocite layer is.  If it's of sufficient thickness,  it may stand on its own as a target.  Also the magnetics are suggesting something of size underneath.   If it was dead rock, wouldn't magnetics be limited -  although other minerals without copper may do that.

Correct.  The Bornite-Chalcocite? blanket is a huge exploration target. Magnetics can mean many things not just a potassic core.  As of this moment we don't know what is causing the magnetism.  Caution is advised.

Very hard to predict anything at this point.  If hole 26 was drilled slightly West by 50-75 m in that corridor and we got grades similar to hole 5 then that would greatly influence how we look at things now. Bottom line is that we need more drilling.   I really like their approach of positioning more drills in the known discovery area and step out from there, while only placing one ...more
