Abandoned holes 6,7,9A and 9B
The Hercules rhyolite is a crumbly rock of little strength. It is difficult to core through under the best of circumstances. These faults have clearly turned it into an unconsolidated gravel which is difficult to impossible to core through. Holes 6 and 9 will be repeated once the big RC drill arrives.
Hole 7 will be deepened in the fall as planned.
Did they anticipate such trouble back in April? Exploration geologists can be eternal optimists. Reality has set in.
