Irony: Isolexx approved by EFSA

"The biological value of rapeseed and soy protein, determined by the PDCAAS, appears to be similar. The Panel notes the source and nature of the novel food, the absence of a nutritional disadvantage at the proposed uses and use levels, the low concentrations of potentially adverse components in the NF, and the absence of toxicologically relevant effects in subchronic studies with rats conducted with rapeseed protein isolates with similar compositions. The Panel concludes that rapeseed protein isolate is safe under the proposed uses and use levels."

Interesting (section 6 "Nutritional information"):  "Using the most recent amino acid scoring pattern (EFSA NDA Panel, 2012) and a digestibility of 85 % from human studies, the PDCAAS of five batches of the NF has been calculated. The mean and the range of the PDCAAS of the five batches were 0.98 and 0.92- 1.00, respectively, with mainly lysine (in four batches) or leucine (one batch) as potentially limiting amino acids. The Panel notes that this PDCAAS range is similar to the PDCAAS of soy protein with methionine+cysteine as limiting amino acids (EFSA NDA Panel, 2012)."

My comment 1: Casein and egg protein (highest biological value have a PDCAAS of 1.00. It appears that rapeseed protein is (like soy protein) a plant protein of very high biological value.

My comment 2: EFSA has approved its safety. Whenever this happens the European Commission gives also its formal ok.

My comment 3: Once some will profit from the work done by BIOEXX, but probably not its shareholders........What an irony!

We are not quite dead yet Foodhawke.  Oct 31st should complete the Saskatchewan sale of $7.5 million with about $5 million owed.  The monthly burn is now very low so if a bankruptcy petition is avoided there may be time to effect a sale of the company (or the patent assets)  or a JV with a European producer (at less than perfect terms).  We could still get 10 cents back per ...more

Wishful thinking. Look for a possible non-cash buy out based upon a 100 or so,  for one share swap.  The ratio depending upon the value of the acquirer's shares and the negotiated value.  HELM AG would be an ideal acquirer.  They are private so their share value is not public. They spent their reputational currency by backing the EFSA submission.  Why would they do ...more

more likely, if there is any value to the patent and the EU situation - they dissolve BioExx and privately start another company registered in Europe.... then after the smoke clears start to sell shares on the open market in Europe...then dissolve that company and go private registered in S. Africa, Panama, Sierra Leon , North Korea....or somewhere .... till the smoke clears then sell shares ...more
