Good entry position?

I was in BP years ago and enjoyed the dividend and thought I would hold it forever. Alas, never get too fond of a stock as it will only  break your heart. That said, and aware of some of the strong feelings here about the company and management, I am becoming pursuaded that their entry into alternative energy will assure them a place at the table of energy companies for the 21st century. Whether this will be achieved in what time I have left on this earth is the deciding factor. The dividend at the present price is very tempting and I think sustainable. What says the board?

Yes the dividend is and always has been the reason for owning bp rds etc as there is no growth there...go up and down and up again that's all they do. As to the future, we are in turbulent times of change. These oil majors have huge advantages in thier infrastructure and global presence so that is thier moat. But how they manage going forward is anyone's guess. No one can afford to be ...more
