160 mineros se formalizaron en Santander

Mining is one of the most traditional economic activities in Santander, with 450 years. For years, however, it has been practised illegally. In order to preserve the source of income, 160 california miners signed the subcontract of formalization within the framework of the mining policy of the National Government, through the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

For his part, Jorge Abad Maldonado, manager of Calimineros, said that "it is the greatest achievement of california miners in history because we managed to make our formalization a reality. There are 160 families that we passed to the legality under the protection of a subcontract that assures us the permanence in the territory, and gives us the possibility of preserving the mining ancestrality. These projects are not achieved without the accompaniment of private enterprise, and even less so without the support of the National Government through its ministries. We fulfilled the dream of remaining in the territory without fleeing, and now from the legal sphere."

A work plan

Now begins the work plan for Calimineros to submit its Environmental Impact Study to the Regional Autonomous Corporation (CDMB) to obtain its environmental license and start the operation process.

"We are proud of this process and the progress we saw for three years in Calimineros and in the partners' drive to become part of the formality. It is a success story for the mining sector, we walked together in this step by step, which began with house-to-house conversations so that 160 families who had the interest of operating legally in their territory, managed to form a company that today will allow them to carry out their mining activity in a formal and safe way" , said Mauricio Cuesta, executive vice president of Minesa.

This achievement of formalization was achieved in a work of Minesa and Calimineros, with the direction of the Ministry of Mines; as well as the inter-institutional accompaniment of the National Mining Agency (ANM), the Legal Gold program of USAID, the University of Rosario, the Autonomous University of Bucaramanga (Unab), the University of Santander (Udes), Fedemunicipios and the Sena. As well as regional leaders like the California priest.

The familiies willl be mining the EOM claim 13921 that was just transfered to Minesa. Looks like the ANM is once again greenlighting mining in the area

When I look on the MINESA twitter page (with a machine translator) it really seems to me, that Minesa is trying to get their permits in cooperation with the local "calimineros". https://twitter.com/minesa_col?lang=en Interesting, if something would be moving there.  Please bear in mind: Minesa plans to build a very expensive big and long twin tunnel to transport the minerals  ...more

Access and a prospective tunnel have always been an asset for Eco Oro.  Add in the ounces in the ground and it would seem a reasonable fit for Minesa.   But, there again, the political obfuscaton has left it all a mess.
