Santurbn: they sign agreement to delimit the moor in the municipality of California, Santander

Associations of ancestral miners signed the document to begin its mining formalization by agreeing not to use chemicals that contaminate water sources in California.

A historic agreement for the protection of the Santurbn was achieved in where communities in the municipality, which opposed the delimitation, agreed to begin a mining formalization to protect the ecosystem.

Among the agreed points were determined to strengthen territorial governance, the conservation of moor areas and the management around the water, in search of a great social agreement between government and community.

The formalization of small, clean-producing small family mining will also be initiated in California in order advance the solution of the informal mining problem that affects water quality in the region.

This is a message so that we do not lose sight of that the central axis that we want to be the guide of the next steps, is to order the territory around the water and this is part of the processes of the forest areas and the paramos areas, because precisely the moor collects the transition strip, such as the moor forest and above the area of moor itself, said an official of the Ministry of the Environment.

In the California area, the multinational Minesa has existing mining titles. This must be an issue to be resolved by the national Government at upcoming meetings.

The communities of the municipalities of Vetas, Tona and Surat, in 2023, signed agreements to delimit the Santurbn moor in their territories.

Great fiind, thank you MacBook. The physical basis to realize this agreement is the Aris (and Minesa) mill. They will buy from the small miners the rock and mill it with modern industrial and clean methods. Doing so they win nearly double the amount of gold from each ton of ore material delivered by the small miners than the small miners would win by their poor old fashioned methods from one ton ...more

Thanks both. How does it tie to December 15th deadline.

Settling the outsanding paramo dispute is moving very quickly now. California last week.  Berlin this weekend.  No doubt the change of leadership in Cali, Bucaramanga and governor has helped.  very bullish A dec 15 approval for Vetas to mine at 3500m as standalone operation effectively undermines all arguments against EOM mining at lower elevation. Then of course there is he minesa ...more
