Good read on Nickel and Fathom Nickel

Much more nickel goes into these batteries than any of the other metal. I think I posted the link below before but it gives a good overview on Fathom Nickel and talks about the importance of nickel in EV batteries. 



Specific to a typical EV battery (NMC532), the metals required are:

- 17 pounds of lithium carbonate

- 30 pounds of cobalt

- 44 pounds of manganese

- 77 pounds of nickel

Now consider how much extra nickel needs to be produced each year if indeed the International Energy Agency is correct in a report estimating some 150 million EVs will be on the road by 2030.

How would solid state batteries affect the nickel demand in these batteries?

  Good question. I don't think anybody knows for sure because the technology in these batteries change so rapidly from one year to the next. There are a lot of questions on these solid state batteries. Still up in the air in my opinion. You can read up on it in the link below. No nickel in them as far as I know. But batteries only account for about 5% of the nickel used in the world ...more
