Newlox Gold Ventures Corp > CYANIDE now banned in Costa Rica, is Newlox next?

CYANIDE now banned in Costa Rica, is Newlox next?

Costa Rica has now banned the use of Cyanide. (see below) When will they shut down the small Newlox operations?

Newlox has NO proprietary Technology. All they have is simple second hand crushing and concentrate equipment that can be purchased off the shelf or built anywhere... but now they can't continue to secretly use cyanide to treat their concentrates and will have to send it to smelters. This will eliminate any cost benefit they have been claiming.

Costa Rica has banned cyanide. In 2010, the president signed a decree completely banning all open-pit mines and cyanide mineral leaching operations. The ban was motivated by environmental degradation and a repeated failure to operate and control cyanide leaching facilities safely.

In an extraordinary session that took place in the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica, a law was presented against open-pit mining in order to stop the great damage that this practice causes to our environment, 50 legislators voted in favor of the project that prohibits the exploitation of gold with this method and also the use of cyanide and mercury.

Places as diverse as the U.S. state of Montana, Costa Rica, and the Czech Republic have enacted legislation banning cyanide in mining.

In watching the video and doing a quick google search, you can gain an understanding that thier are different grades and types of cyanide and altho past mining operations have used Industrial grade (highly toxic) cyanide and have done major releases into the waterways which is what is banned. the video points out that Newlox uses a naturally produced organic natural version with the use of ...more

Newlox is using cyanide, period. There is only one cyanide. Cyanide is a chemical compound (NaCN). You are attempting to mislead the investors and shareholders on this board.  There is no such thing as "organic natural cyanide" made from plants. There may be some universities that have done research on plants that contain minute traces of cyanide compounds such as fruit seeds and ...more

I'm not a chemist, nor do I really care about the methodology and science side of what's going on. The projects are already permitted, approved, moving forward and staring to produce results with interests of growing locations in more areas while the methodology is continued to be improved upon. All I wanna see as an investor are NUMBERS, I wanna see how much is being produced, ...more

Unbelievable... All of the cyanide (CN) compounds and you refer to are highly toxic to the environment and none of them are “natural organic safe versions of cyanide”. Any of the (CN) compounds that can dissolve gold into solution are extremely hazardous and are prohibited in most countries. You also state that Newlox is researching various alternatives to cyanide. The whole world is. The lab ...more

Not worth investigating? Really? We are talking about a public company that is potentially misleading investors and shareholders by representing that they are an eco friendly gold miner using a proprietary non-toxic, non-cyanide based reagent when in reality they are simply using toxic cyanide (potentially without permits) and this doesn't concern you?  Do you really believe that the ...more

Covering your ears and stomping your feet is not going to protect your investment here. This may be a serious legal misrepresentation by management. Everyone should demand clarification from the company and ask them address these questions: Are they permited to use cyanide in Costa Rica? Does the government know they are using cyanide? Describe the "green" aspect of the ...more

While it's been an amusing read, I'm not sure why anyone would give any oxygen to Newloxlurker after they stated: "There is only one cyanide. Cyanide is a chemical compound (NaCN)." That's like saying the chemical formula for Sodium is NaCl. Which, just in case you're not aware Newloxlurker, it isn't. Understanding the nomenclature for ionic compounds is, like ...more

Nice try at defecting the questions posed, but your rambling lecture on cyanide, whether it is sodium or potassium-based, is used in gold mining and both are toxic. A safe or eco-friendly version of cyanide which is effective at dissolving gold into solution does not exist. Your tedious discourse does not resolve the issue of a company claiming it is using eco-friendly processes when in fact is ...more

Okay, I'll quickly bite. As stated before, they are exploring alternatives to cyanidation, including DMSO and OAR, but this has always been a CIL setup. Know what you're getting into when investing in a company. It has been a modified CIL process the entire time and it will continue to be so until such time that a viable alternative has been commercialized. Take a moment and understand ...more

Also, this would have been a material change for the company and bylaw they have to disclose the information to the shareholders.

Your comment that the environment can consume the cyanide used by Newlox, is ludicrous and speaks volumes about your lack of mining and chemistry knowledge.  Please publish any data that supports your claims, including: Proof that Newlox is using an "organic natural and safe cyanide" and the source and cost of same. Proof of the existence of any commercially viable version ...more
