merger questions:

I hold Canadian MMAT shares in two registered account (TFSA and RRSP)...

Q1: if I do NOTHING with respect to the "letter of transmittal", what will happen to my shares?...

Q2: is that the best approach here? (ie., to do nothing)...

note that I did not receive anything from my brokerage regarding any letter or other documentation, so the easiest thing for me to do at this late point in time is to simply do nothing

also wondering: if I do nothing and get default shares of Torch, will those be in $US? (in my Canadian account)... btw, I'm with TDWH...

My understanding is that The conversion won't trigger a tax event unless it's in just a regular trading account. You'll just end up with a bunch of American stock in your Canadian accounts. The bank will probably take an extra percentage on the exchange rate when you sell it though. Regarding TDWH; check 'e-services', then click the appropriate account, then click ' ...more

Thanks for the tip on TDWH corporate actions.  I didn't know that.  Also good point about US$ in RRSP.  I think there may be a limit on how much US listed stock there can be in RRSP.   Seems like most Canadian holders should take the exchangeable even with the complication of having to file a tax election.  Even if you expect to sell this year it's worth keeping ...more
