i am not a driller i do not know but gas reading i think is done my opinion only

No, not opinion, other than interpretation of the data. The well bore has several sensors that measure things such as pressure, density and other data about the downhole. This allows better direction of the drillhead, to remain within the intended target zone. Provides as they drill data about the hole. Drill bits no longer have to be drilled straight down.
