Mcf to Boe

One Mcf of natural gas contains approximately one-sixth of the energy of a barrel of oil; therefore, 6,000 cubic feet of natural gas (6 Mcf) have the energy equivalent of one barrel of oil. If my math is right at 16.5 mmcf per day this one well is pumping out 2,750 BOE Per day. GLTAL

I strongly advise you NOT to even consider energy equivalence to evaluate any gas producer, but especially not TCF. Yes the theoretical ratio is 6:1 for mcf:barrel. But unless you operate a power plant that can switch back and forth between fuels, it's completely irrelevant. If you MUST convert to boe/d I suggest you use the economic equivalent, not the energy equivalent. So, if the long term ...more

By the way, and FYI, this is why I'm not keen on alberta gas producers right now. In their case they are selling gas at lower than the 6:1 energy equivalent. If you are selling nat gas at $2.50 USD per mcf, that's the equivalent of selling wti at $15 USD ! That sucks! The economic equivalent of selling $WTI at say $75 USD and Henry hub gas at $2.50 is 30 times !!!!  Oil is currently ...more

Totally agree with your posts. In reference to alberta you also have to take into account condy associated which has a premuium to WTI. That of course depends on the production. Dry gas vs wet gas. Then of course there are NGLs that are not equivelent. NGLs are not condy.  Love how companies like Tourmaline quote liquids vs Condy. Two different things in terms of product value.  ...more

Agreed, however that depends on the heating equivelent of the gas. Ie moleculars makeup.  Its an old comparison to Boe rates. Then people compare pricing which really clouds the issues. I wouldnt fall into that trap. Op cost are lower with gas.  just use the gas rate * price. Its about cash flow. Not rates
