hidden benefit of diversification
One of the lessons i had to learn the hard way is diversification. I had to learn this repeatedly because apparently I was a slow learner at least when it came to the markets. But before you roll your eyes at such a banal truism, there is an important reason to diversify that most people don't think about. And that reason is clear thinking. If you have too much $ in one stock, not only do you dramatically increase risk of blowing up your account, but it can also lead to a sort of obsession with a stock. Which can lead you to you not being able to think straight. It can even lead to depression. If you are properly diversfied, and a stock drops, the discomfort is so minimal that it doesn't impact your thinking. I'm sure that is the given for a lot of you, but for any that it is not already apparent, I hope that is helpful. I've been heavy long and wrong enough times to know what it can do to the psyche.
