hidden benefit of diversification

One of the lessons i had to learn the hard way is diversification. I had to learn this repeatedly because apparently I was a slow learner at least when it came to the markets. But before you roll your eyes at such a banal truism, there is an important reason to diversify that most people don't think about. And that reason is clear thinking.  If you have too much $ in one stock, not only do you dramatically increase risk of blowing up your account, but it can also lead to a sort of obsession with a stock. Which can lead you to you not being able to think straight. It can even lead to depression.   If you are properly diversfied, and a stock drops, the discomfort is so minimal that it doesn't impact your thinking.  I'm sure that is the given for a lot of you, but for any that it is not already apparent, I hope that is helpful.   I've been heavy long and wrong enough times to know what it can do to the psyche.

nice to read a comment from someone who is calm and rational like Sam......I think there is too many gamblers with a stock like this and they take their hard earned money and buy it with dreams of mutliple bagger as a guarantee because they fall in love with the stock and don't look at signals unfortunately they are also quite emotional investors and that explains the name calling comments ...more

Sam's awesome, owns his sheeeet and tells it like it is...no game play... thats the purity of the forum. Unfortunately greed and deception is hows fuel up, pathetic, but what goes around comes aroiund, always!!! maybe not in their portfolios, but in life in general...health, accidents and friendships can go sideways for clowns that defy the charisma circle...and i am the least religious man ...more
