Federal Environmental assesments

Basically axes most assesments in BC. Not sure if Compliance is affected, but a good read regardless.

I've talked to the CEAA rep in charge of Raven about this recently. The Federal Assessment still applies to Raven and will continue as is. (I believe because it is classified as a "Major" project). What changes somewhat is the timeline.  Right now we are in a bit of black hole as we wait for Raven to finish the AIR/EIS document.  However, once the final document is ...more

Here is what Mr. Barlow actually said... I just dug up the email from July.     Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 (CEAA 2012) and how it applies to the Raven Underground Coal Mine Project.  The CEAA 2012 and related regulations came into force July 06, 2012. Comprehensive studies begun under the former Act will continue to ...more

"When the actual approval is given by the Federal and Provincial Ministers will of course be up to those Ministers/Governments of the day." At this time, I suppose that sums up the risk of investing in this company.  Even if the science says that the impact of this mine will be minimal.  Whether or not environmental permits are granted really boils down to the politics of the ...more

Good post bestguesstoo.  I agree with everything you said, except the following, "At least CEC has some other irons in the fire. Maybe one of the north island mineral properties will be feasible and become another company priority in the near future. Especially if the Raven project doesn't proceed."   The Raven coal mine is CEC's main project.  If they ...more

Stopping Raven on the grounds of reducing our commitment to climate change and world CO2 emissions would be the most wise and long term position the government could make.  And it would be up to government to make that determination because it is not part of BCEAO or CEAA mandate. The whole jobs argument is ridiculous when justifying this mine over anything else.  As bg2 said, we have ...more

It's easy to see that you're for stopping Raven and nothing else chrisale.   Could you show me another company that you're against, and what you've posted on their projects?   Or how about showing us some positive posts on clean energy companies you wish to promote?    I'm invested in CEC, that's why I'm here.  You're agenda seems to be stop ...more

Has it taken you this long to figure that out 2guys?  Of course I'm against Raven.  I'm also a realist though so I know despite my support for those trying to stop Raven and my own efforts to explain why Raven should not proceed I also know the BCEAO has never recommended against a mine and the BCLibs are wholly in favour.  So that is why I've also spent a lot of time ...more
