Port Alberni council screening process

Just went through the Alberni City Council Agenda at  www.portalberni.ca for tomorrow's meeting and see that it had the City Managers report on the review he's done of the AIR for their part in the screening process.  He indicates that it does appear to address what they brought up as concerns at least so far as transportation through th city and handling at the port is concerned.  He also indicates though that due to the extreme size and complexity of the report any other issues Council may want to address would require specialized consultation to augment city staff.

His report is on page 75/76 of the agenda.

I guess that is very positive, at least for the issue of Port Alberni transportation.  As for the complexity of the report, being so big, you would have to expect that organiziation of the issues and how they are being addressed would be complex.   This will probably be one of the most complex EA reports ever completed IMO, but as long as all the issues have been addressed thoroughly and ...more

Just a clarification: Note the Manager said the report addressed the concerns they raised on transportation, but he is not indicated whether those concerns were addressed positively or negatively.  That is to be revealed once the report goes public and comments are submitted. I'll keep an eye on the council meeting tonight and see if he gives any hints on how they think the the proponent ...more
