Importance of having a balanced stock portfolio

The trading in Crius today shows the wisdom of having a balanced stock portfolio and not being over weight in any stock.  I rebalanced a few weeks ago after a good run and am holding 14 stocks.  Don't like holding more than 14 because of the time research takes for each one.

I'm underwater by $2,500 in Crius today but made $6,500 in the STB buyout this morning.  And other stocks like DR are doing good today.  While I don't like what happened with Crius I'm not getting too excited about it.  One thing I won't do is buy more Crius to average down because regardless of the perceived opportunity I won't be overweight in any stock.  You can't put a dollar value on sleeping sound at night.

Three years ...more

Can we put the emphasis on "a few lucky buyouts"? certainly not the dividends for a 250% increase.

Yes you can.

Sorry my first reply was simply Yes.  You deserve more than that.  My first big move was The Brick.  Almost bankrupt  but their new CEO bill Gregson turned it around and Leon’s bought them.  I retired early  after this move.  Then came Capstone infrastructure.  Another buyout.  Then came Ithaca energy,  Big buyout for me.  Today with STB ...more

I invest in a similar manner. It's a good common sense approach.
