Resistance Point

From the way I read it, we are at the one year plus, downward resistance line.

Hopefully we will break through in a nice orderly manner for a steady breakout.

Deisman, I am with you. I hope they did what they did to improve the cash flow so that by the time they have to pay the distribution in June the payout will again be below 100%. As indicated they expect it to go down to 57%. I expect 2018 financial statement to be terrible but hope that Q4 will show significant improvement and that Q1 2019 will actually show a payout below 100%. If so I believe ...more

I believe RBCs estimate to be optimistic.  It wouldn't hurt my feelings if it's correct though. I'm about a $1.50C below my ACB at this point in time.  I'm also going to be using the units I purchased recently at the way oversold (IMHO) prices to play the swings. This trust's unit price swings are a day trader's dream.  I'm not allowed to day ...more

You need to find a different brokerage.

I'm old enough that my RRSPs are now RRIFs and yes, TFSAs.  Neither is are eligible for day trading.  When I had RRSPs, I was allowed "some day trading'' I did quite a bit but never got a penalty. I did however get a warning one time. I did a lot of day trades that week.  GLTA the good folks here

Just wondering who you trade through? Haven't had any warning with TD but maybe haven't hit the threshholds

I finally settled on Scotia about 30 years ago. Mostly because the company I worked for used them as the financial facility to deposit my wages.  My brother in law, recently passed away. He did all of his trading through TD, inside of his registered accounts. Towards the end he tried day trading within his TFSA and ended up with penalty charges against the registered account.  It ...more

But on the 21st you said we would be skyrocketing right after the  dog and pony show   Analyst Day. I asked you why you made that prediction. You got quite butthurt about that, now you're back 3 days later with a slightly more conciliatory tone and say things are looking good but we can't be sure yet. So I ask again, what was your prediction from the 21st based on? Just ...more

Had 34,000 shares of this company at one point.  Freaked out when things plummeted in December.  Finally rose back up to make a small profit and I sold 4 days ago.  I can't believe since I sold that it's gone up over 70 cents... too much uncertainty in this company.

Very understandable.  I have a lot of units in this trust as well.  I don't like how management screwed up with Solar and a few other issues IMHO but, I believe this is turning around.  It isn't unusual for these trusts in this particular business of brokering energy, to be volatile.  The volatility provides some great opportunities to make several times ...more

Thanks for insight.  The high dividend was what attracted me in the first place but what they have done makes it hard for me to hold on to the company.  Putting the record and payout date so far ahead made it less attractive.  Lots of things can happen within the next 4-6 months before they get back onto a regular schedule.  I might pick up some shares near ex-dividend date but ...more

Both of your picks have way to much debt for my liking right now. I do however agree that 5 months of dead money is a long time.  However, the trend seems to have reversed and there may be more money to be made by just sitting on this while the price is rising.  You could wait until mid Feb and pick up JE, for the rise to their ex dividend day, thereby picking up a quick quarterly ...more

HPJTV77 - Feel your pain. I've done the same in the past but just embrace the profit. You're right on the uncertainty in this company - lots of "if's" in the near future. Also seems to me the SP is being played with a bit at the moment. Friday, for example, the $5.49 bid disappeared at about 9:29:55 am and for the last few days the end of day trades seem to get bumped to prop ...more
