Baffling....Panama

Panama is first and foremost THE CANAL...After having spent billions on expanding the canal and the revenues it produces low water conditions have now cut that business drastically. Some years ago Panama adopted some loose and secretive banking practices that attracted capital from suspicious sources.  The interantional headlines and prosecutions generated by it's banking industry have reduced that business as well. A couple of years ago a large Trump branded tourist accomodation development business turned out to be a fraud and cast a shadow on that sector as well. Now we have the FM debacle. If the Panamanian government has a natural resources / mining ministry it might as well close that department down and send the employees home! Nobody will spend any money in Panama looking for minerals....and this will be for DECADES to come.
Low water reducing revenue, "free money" no longer booosting it's financial sector, the tourist industry looked upon as a possible gamble, 4000 miners now out of work...the whole industrial supply sector must be feeling the chill. Where the heck is this country going? It looks intent on going from a developing country to a third world coountry at this point.

I have seen ads promoting Panama as a place to retire. Tourism is significant. For sure Panama has a couple of crises onits hands Panama 4 million population, Canada 40 million
