General Question

How does dividends work for comp that pays them out. Do you need to own their shares for that whole quarter or just own it on last day of quarter/trading or what??? Newby here

There is an "ex-dividend" date about a month or so before the dividend is issued. If you own the stock on that date you will receive the dividend even if you sell it before the dividend is issued.

You need to own it the day before the "ex-dividend" date.  So for CJ for example, provides a monthly versus quarterly dividend. The ex-dividend date was yesterday Feb 27th, so you needed to own Feb 26th to get the distribution for that month.
