I think this is most of the article

By searching google in quotes, i was able to get at least this from the emerging markets site:

Oct 22, 2009 (DW) - Russian steel maker Severstal plans to sell its gold mining business, AK&M Novosti online news service reported today quoting Alexey Kulichenko, deputy CFO of Severstal. According to Kulichenko, the deal could take place in H1/2010. Severstal owns 61.7% in Canadian High River Gold , which mines gold, silver and nickel in Russia and Burkina Faso. Severstal has production facilities in Russia, Europe and the USA. Company CEO Alexey Mordashov owns 82.37% in Severstal, the remaining 17.63% in the company are held by institutional investors and company employees.

If that is all there is to the story, then there's a a good chance it was a misquote.

the statement was not of Severstal selling HRG, but of Severstal selling their gold division. Very different. HRG is obviously in there but it will be bundled and sold, so they still need to buy us out. That is the way I read it anyways. Man, was I wrong about the closing price, this stock has zero liquidity. 200k can drive it up or down 10%.

Of course the liquidity is becoming very thin. You have the strong hands holding the bulk of the minority position, then you have some traders who jump in and out, ALONG with, I am sure, "close friends" of the majority control group, trying to acquire shares. Where does that leave this over time? Well you get fewer and fewer shareholders, as the consolidation takes place, harder for ...more
