Blaise Compaore, the president of Burkina Faso is facing an escalating unrest from the army.
Last night his own guard staged a mutiny which spread to other military units.
Small arms and heavy weapons were used on the site of the presidential compound.
The mutinous soldiers were reported to be angry about unpaid housing allowances.
Today gunshots could still be heard in the city.
It is the third time in two months that President Compaore has been confronted by the armed forces.
