Blaise Compaore, the president of Burkina Faso is facing an escalating unrest from the army.

Last night his own guard staged a mutiny which spread to other military units.

Small arms and heavy weapons were used on the site of the presidential compound.

The mutinous soldiers were reported to be angry about unpaid housing allowances.

Today gunshots could still be heard in the city.

It is the third time in two months that President Compaore has been confronted by the armed forces.

Mustapha Thiombiano is a radio and TV owner in Burkina Faso he gave the latest to BBC Focus on Africa's Sophie Ikenye.

The president fled the capital city. I remember one important thing and that's: Bissa needs approval of president. I'm stepping on thin ice here. Probably better to put some into physical gold.

It might be wise to report on the latest news, instead of panicking people.  The President is back city (he wasn`t chased out of the city though).  Both sides are reporting that agreements have been reached.  People have been better compensated.  That`s not to say that more issues couldn`t arise in the future.  But, it appears as if the original issues have been ...more
