High
River Gold
: Takeover Offer
?
Andrew
Hoose
Friday, 22.07.2011
, 15:38
clock
At one of our
long
-term
recommendations
from the
gold sector
is doing
after a
long break
something
:
How
recently
was heard
,
wants
a major shareholder
of
Severstal
Russian
shareholders
of High
River Gold
(
HRG.TO
)
make
a new takeover
offer.
Some time ago,
tried to
purchase the Canadian
company
had
already failed
once
.
That was
however
not surprising
: the first
takeover attempt
, the Russians
launched
two years ago
with a bid
of eight
cents
Canadian
(!
)
.
Later,
the offers
were
at
22 cents
and
then raised
again
to 30
cents.
But
shareholders
rejected
the bids
from
each
.
Now things
are slightly
different:
Currently
there is talk of
a takeover
bid of
1.50
dollars per
share certificate
CAN
,
so
the current
more than 28 percent
above the share price
.
Details of
the proposed transaction
are not yet
known
.
At the moment
we would be
more inclined
to reject
the offer.
Although
the
share price over the
past two
years
has
risen
properly
.
By industry standards
, the Group
is
however
still
very
reasonably priced.
At a price
-earnings
ratio
of about 7.5
would be
more
room for
courses
in the area
from 2.50 to 3.00
CAN $
.
The price trend
shows that
soon
could develop
a new push
.
For about
nine months
, the stock
is
more or
less sideways
.
The 50-
week moving average
was last
successfully
recaptured
(
blue line
in the figure below
)
.
The recent
slump in
the
gold
mines
could
not
hurt
the stock price
much
.
The relative strength
suggests
that
here
again soon
could develop
an outbreak
.
We
would
buy
the shares
back
now
.

I agree that HRG should be trading on a P/E of 15-20 times earnings. This is an easy two bagger from 1.20.

I agree but your calculation is off earnings which in my opinion have been stifled. First there was the Prognoz write down and 4th qrt 2010 had a mill shut down which impacted earnings. If we were to see a write up and full production, we could and should have earnings in the area of .30 to .40 per share!! IMO Even at a discount for all the slimeball moves a 10 PE ratio
