Newbie trading question.

I'm a long investor and mostly buy and hold. Can someone that buys and sells frequently (day trader) explain to me how you can sell a stock for a gain, wait for a pull back and purchase that same stock shorty after? I always thought there was a 30 day waiting period to repurchase the same security? What am I missing? Thank you.

But when you sell for a gain you can trade as many times you want but the gains will be taxable immediately as a gain reportable the next year however when you sell for a loss to carry over that loss for the next taxable year that capital loss you must wait 30 days before repurchasing otherwise it will be called a superficial loss but you can buy and sell any time you want just remember capital ...more
