Food For Thought

Since I am new to the LAM/GEL board, I'd like to offer some background info.  I have been managing separate investment and trading accounts since 2011.  After a highly paid professional investment manager lost over half my portfolio in 2009, I took over handling my money in 2010 and spent a year, reading, attending seminars, doing online training and practice trading.  I have an MBA, have owned a business and been a manager for many years.  I have experienced over 400% total growth in my accounts since 2011.  Yes I've made a lot of mistakes and missed opportunities, but I have developed a swing trading approach that works for me that I use in my TFSA trading acount.  My investment account is returning 6.82% yield and has grown well in the last 5 years.  I'm invested in GEL (and a few other gaming companies) because I work at a casino.  The trends in casino gaming are:  privatization and technological migration.  Does everyone here know that OLG is selling all of its businesses over the next few years?  Private companies will be picking up casinos and slot sites and I suspect finding ways to drive bottom line and their stock price.  Getting in now is a smart play.  Private companies are offering bingo, slots, poker and other games online and quickly migrating from desktops to mobile devices.  The growth potential is staggering.  The business is virtually recession proof and a license to print money. GEL is in the right place at the right time, but it may not succeed.  I will either make a killing with GEL or not, but I never "bet" on speculative companies without being able to accept 100% loss.   I hope this board would be a place to gain knowledge, exchange investing strategies and learn from each other.  I've had great experiences on other Stockhouse boards and I hope this board can be in the "great experience" category, but so far........

Welcome to the board Klepto! Good to have you here with your experience. I agree GEL could be at the right place at the right time, and this is setting up pretty well imo. No guarantee of course, but I think it's way undervalued at the moment with the revs they have. Any idea what's holding this...debt maybe?

They have almost 50million in debt, but they have also increased the shares, which is not unusual for a company at this stage of their growth, but dilution can lead to lower stock price.  The debt is primarily related to Diwip purchase ($45,665,503) @ 12%.  So you may be correct that the debt/equity ratio is 1 with a fairly high rate is cause for pause.  However, they are growing ...more

i am concerned with GEL's liquidity.  The average trading volume is low and if this stock plunged it could be difficult to get out without a huge loss.  Stop loss orders only work when buyers exist.

0 volume today...I guess your point is valid. Unbelievable they don't get more attention with the revs they have. Thought the PS deal would bring us a little more visibility. Next PR could be a preview of Q2 revs if numbers are good. Hopefully they're working hard on something else.
