Welcome to 2019 - Just picked up 14K shares of KATFF at 0.36

Almost done my accumulation of KAT/KATFF.  Now own over 1.4 million shares with average price of around 0.70-75 cents Canadian. May pick up some more shares in the next few trading days.

A large scale of civic war that may affect the mining operation in the DRC Southern copper belt is very unlikely due to small and weak anti-government troops who are mainly operating in the North-East of the DRC.

Two issues would still needed to resolve: (1) re-start the cobalt export and (2) negotiation on the DRC custom fine. Glencore issue with US and UK investigation would not directly have impact on Katanga Mining. This is still years' away. Mostly likely Glencore will settle with US and UK governments eventually.

I do feel that the share price will start to move up from early January and KAT will be around $2 - $3 by the end of 2019 with the price appreciation mainly occurred in the 2nd half of 2019.

Welcome to 2019!

Love the optimism.  This is one of those stocks that has 10 bagger potential,  although it could also be worthless in short-time if tensions do flare as they have in the past.   You are 100% correct that the NE are the areas that have been excluded from election on the 30th but if history is any guide being fractious and inefectual does not mean toothless when the governing ...more

Why diversify?  Well,  I would argue that nobody knows what the devil's plan for the Congo is and as such it is a roll of the dice.   I would also agree that a large glut of cobalt is highly unlikely given it's limitless demand potential and lack of availibility.    The reason I decided not to invest in KAT was specifically because of the dysfuncion in ...more

Well,  funny you should ask as I was hoping to see how people here had hedged their bets.  I've bought quite a bit of Sherritt myself a bit of giga and thought abought dabbling in cobalt 27    Thus far I've had my butt handed to me on my sherritt play and I am exactly even on giga.  I still like Sherritt though dispite this year's performance.   On a ...more

I picked up 5 lots of Sherritt last week. Looked like abottom. S. and KAT. both follow the price of cobalt more so than any other factor.  Most cobalt companies are not miners, just explorers and developers many years from producing. If this trade war ends well, all miners will jump. They have been depressed since June. If it drags out, the smaller ones will be hurt.  The world needs ...more

God just wrong, plain wrong! Kat is leveraged to cobalt only if prices exceed 80k, at fixed copper prices. Katanga produces mainly copper with cobalt as a by product. Kat politics: Kabila provides stability even if he’s corrupt AF. What most people don’t realise, is that every country including first world, politicians get paid. The only difference is the means ie. whether I use a super PAC/non ...more

Agree regarding copper on a fundamental basis but risk off end of cycle dynamics render supply/demand realities irrelevant, sad but true.  If China continues to contract and the fed keeps raising rates there is no reason why the base metal complex doesn't go much lower from here.

Also not sure what you mean by your cobalt comment.  While it is true at current market prices in 2019 KAT will primarily derive its revenue from selling Copper, the difference between Copper and Cobalt revenue should be marginal.  Also the volatility in cobalt prices means it will have a much larger delta impact on KAT's bottom line and will be the primary driver for EPS growth.

Basically that Katanga is more levered to copper than cobalt unless cobalt prices hit 80k/ton. I do appreciate the risk sentiment as the Chinese economy might contract within the short term. But once again in the long term, the Chinese government is going to micromanage the situation, and avert crisis. Lech I think you mistake some of us as day traders when in actuality most are long term ...more
