Dividend

Whats the point of buying before th ex-dividend date then if the stock drops 10 cents automatically on ex-dividend date anyway to adjust. What a waste... there isn't much difference from buying the next day at around 10 cents less (same as the divy), unless the stock opens up higher right away which it hasn't.

Haven't been involved with dividend stocks much in the past, and after this experience I don't see much benefit to them at all. Thoughts?

A lot of people play the ex dividend dates for regular quarterly dividends, and it may or may not be an effective strategy.   This, however, was an extraordinary dividend, and you should not expect the strategy to work.  In fact, even option exercise prices are reduced by the amount of extraordinary dividends, but are not affected at all by ordinary dividends.

As opposed to buying a non dividend paying stock which can easily pull back just as much...that is a prime definition of dead money. With Mart at these levels you are getting a 7 ...more
