Bill Gates makes $10 billion pledge to develop vaccines for poorest countries

DAVOS, Switzerland — Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and his wife,Melinda, say their foundation will donate $10 billion US over the nextdecade to research new vaccines and bring them to the world's poorestcountries.

Bill Gates said in a statement issued on the sidelinesof the World Economic Forum in Davos that "we must make this the decadeof vaccines."

Gates added that "innovation will make it possible to save more children than ever before."

This one really caught my attention.  Now that there will be money for Third World countries, I see the emergence of regional production in Asia or ME to supply global demand without having to compete with current vaccine production which is now totally based in the West.
