SARA killed the projet

It would appear that the SARA killed the project.

https://www.reviewboard.ca/upload/project_document/EA1213-01_Notification_pursuant_to_s__79_of_the_Species_at_Risk_Act__SARA_.PDF

Shortjawed Cisco were identified as being potentially impacted by the project activities

If they mitigate the activity that causes of the potential impact, maybe they'll reapply.

There was no way that MGM could complete the screening assessment and move forward on schedule. Additionally, the required EA study could trigger a precedent and impact future applications.

Husky might be feeling worried now.

Regards

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/story/2012/11/09/north-resource-chill.html?cmp=rss Looks like the regulators have killed not one but two projects in the NWT. The same people that stalled the MGP have their sights on the Canol. The political risk factor is HUGE in the NWT. Alaska here I come.

Glacierman, Two different poisons but sadly the same outcome.  The pipeline hearing and concerns with aboriginal rights  choked out the MVP. For MGM, some species of white fish.  In both cases the common denominator was treaty rights revolving around the inherent aspects of adverse impact to traditional land use.  I suspect the Dene can fish for Cisco with ...more

Hi Glacierman: We have discussed Alaska before and I like the play from a technical point of view.  I think the Canol is better but Alaska is still very good.  How are you investing in this play?

Geodude, I get the need for regulators and inspectors, probably better than most. My Dad worked for Pacific Western Airlines in the 1970s and he told me about the illegal dumping of waste materials by Panarctic.    Nobody ever bothered to look but there are drums of toxic material sitting on the bottom of the Arctic ocean.    But unfortunately the pendulum has swung too far the ...more

Unfortunately, there's only one pony in town -  ROYL.     It received a little bounce when ConocoPhillips joined the party at $171/acre.    Be warned that this is one volatile stock...once the news dies down the stock will drift lower (sort of like MGM).   Without production, these stocks bounce around like yo-yos.    ...more

Hi Glacierman; I have watching the development in Alaska with interest.  I think it has the potential to be a good play.  There is one other company besides Royale involved: Polar Petroleum PDATD, but it stock barely trades on the OTC.  I wish there was more information on Alaska both technical and otherwise.  I only like to invest in company's when I feel that my oil ...more

Oileng,  I enjoy the quality of your posts.    I'd like you to compare one more aspect of Alaska vs Canol.   In your opinion, which play has better access to an enviromentally friendly water source?   As we all know, fracking is dead without it.    I look forward to your comments.

Hi Glacierman: I don't think the water sources are going to a limiting factor for either play.  Both have access to large bodies of surface wate: either lakes or rivers.  I think the problem will be how are they going to dispose of the fracturing fluid that flows back when they produce the well?  This is the stuff that contains all the nasty stuff.  It not only contains the ...more

on my farm , my well was about 350 feet from my house and when they drilled my well everything came right past my house using my driveway and we got along GREAT!  Their are people in this world that want their cake and eat it to , you have to give and take but some want everything

Oileng,  I’m the first to admit that I’m a little lost with the technical aspects to fracking.    So please bear with me while I try to sort out the water requirements.     Ed Duncan claims that the North Slope is blessed with a brackish aquifer that’s unfit for drinking but perfect for fracking.    He claims that it’s a GIFT from mother ...more

No problem glacierman.  There are two water related problems with fracking: Using up all the drinking water in areas with water shortages.  This is a problem in areas like Texas and North Dakota which are short on drinking water.   The amount of water that these fracs use is truly stupendous.  Pollution of drinking water either primarily by the water comes with ...more
