ConocoPhillips resumes preperations for fracking wells
SAHTU - ConocoPhillips resumed drilling two wells on its Canol shale play in the Sahtu late last month in preparation for horizontal hydraulic fracturing, scheduled to begin this month.
Workers were put on a one-week safety stand own after a worker was struck on Dec. 13 when a winch line failed while rig equipment was being moved. The worker was sent to Stanton Territorial Hospital and has since returned to Alberta.
"The incident is still under investigation so there are no details to share at this time regarding outcomes," stated ConocoPhillips spokesperson Lauren Stewart in an e-mail to News/North last week.
The corporation's water licence requires that fracking operations for the season be completed by March.
"We anticipate fracture completions in late January as planned," Stewart stated.
