RJ, Interesting read and thank you for sharing! The valuation metrics discuss dividend and spin-off \ split-up methods.   Dividend:  I have posted in the past I did not believe a dividend was in the cards; I would prefer the reinvestment in growth at this time.  However, if the research was correct and a dividend could significantly increase the value, I would reconcider my ...more

This is a very good analysis, and he arrives at a similar intrinsic value figure that I had mentioned as my target as well.   I don't think that his speculation about selling off all the company assets will ever come true, unless Ross Beaty has a major change of heart.  In the multiple interviews I've seen/read with him, he has been very clear that he is trying to make a long ...more

As beetle says alignment of wants may not be there. I believe this company will be the Beaty family company for a long time to come. There ...more

veracruz; My observation is that men such as Ross Beatty fall in love with houses, a castle, lake views, beaches and more.  They may love money but they rarely fall in love with a company. In this case, the company has mainly delivered pain and I imagine a lot of money losses too. The next step (15 to 18 months) is to get the two new assets in full swing and then the next step (6 months ...more

Hi Mat! I hope you're right. But , his kids have his ear not us. I can make many examples of powerful people bringing family into business (causes), but will stay with this one. It will take big money to sever this business from the Beaty family. Really he doesn't have any obligation to sell as a shareholder, but rather to vote. The chances of an ongoing dog are getting pretty slim, and ...more
