New Era Helium (NEHC) and Sharon AI Accelerate Plans for a Net-Zero Energy Data Center in the Permian Basin Yesterday, New Era Helium (NEHC) and Sharon AI announced significant progress on their joint venture to develop a 250MW net-zero energy data center in the Permian Basin, a major expansion from the initially planned 90MW facility.
Key updates include the signing of a binding Letter of Intent (LOI), finalizing the site location, and plans to formalize the joint venture agreement by December 23, 2024.
Sharon AI will design, build, and operate the Tier III data center, leveraging partnerships with NVIDIA and Lenovo for advanced AI/HPC infrastructure.
NEHC will exclusively provide the energy infrastructure, including a gas-fired power plant, CO2 carbon capture, and pipeline works. The facility aims to meet increasing demand from AI-driven industries and hyperscalers, with potential for future expansion.
CEO E. Will Gray II of New Era Helium emphasized the project’s alignment with innovative and environmentally responsible energy solutions, while Sharon AI CEO Wolf Schubert highlighted progress toward the engineering phase and further offtake discussions.
The initiative underscores both companies' commitment to addressing the energy needs of the digital age with sustainable solutions.
One of the Most Important & Most Overlooked Elements
Helium is one of the world's most essential yet underappreciated critical elements, playing a pivotal role in a wide array of industries.
Beyond filling party balloons, helium is indispensable in the manufacturing of semiconductors, operation of MRI machines, fiber-optic cable production, and even in national defense and aerospace applications like rocket launches and missile guidance systems.
Its unique properties, such as being inert and capable of extreme cooling, make it critical for advanced technologies like quantum computers, fusion reactors, and AI-powered high-performance computing.
Focused on extracting helium from natural gas reserves in North America, NEHC is operating over 137,000 acres in New Mexico, with 1.5 billion cubic feet (BCF) of helium reserves and 400 wells on a mission to capture 1% of the domestic helium market as a major consolidator for distribution across the continent.
With the global helium market projected to reach $7 billion annually and a growing scarcity due to geopolitical factors, investing in helium offers a unique opportunity to capitalize on its irreplaceable role in some of the world’s most vital industries.
