Copper vs Covid and why it matters here

1) Copper demand goes down and supply goes down less, stays the same or goes up = Bad

2) Copper demand continues or goes up and supply goes down = Good

3) Aggregate supply as a percentage of demand remains the same = pffft

"Copper demand continues or goes up and supply goes down" IMO very likely, but before we speak of its effect on copper prices, we need to look at consumption.  You can have high demand, lower supply but in an economic recession the consumption of metal declines as well. We are anticipating an inflationary stimulus to the economy sometime after 2022, although inflationary price ...more

Well, though predicting the future is always difficult I can see something like that happening... Hopefully only a muted recession or slowdown and then back to building a better world by allowing innovation, reason and long term thinking flourish. N

Point well taken, however coming out of the 2008/09 financial crisis, copper and other metals soared on new stimulus. We haven't hit those levels yet in the price of the red metal, and the underlying stocks are well below the peaks they saw in 2010/2011. We've barely just started to emerge from the 2020/21 Covid pandemic crisis, and there is a heck of a lot more stimulus added to the ...more

I believe the "run" is far from done, but someone must have giving you bad data. “coming out of the 2008/09 financial crisis, copper and other metals soared on new stimulus.”   The recession “officially” began in December 2007 with copper priced about $3.00. however, the decline in copper prices didn’t occur for another 6 months after a June 2008 high of $3.83.   Then ...more
