Posted. fyi, if you use Safari, clear history and you'll get one free article. Add sulfuric acid to the list of challenges facing copper miners as the world clamors for more of the wiring metal. The compound, used to extract copper from ore, is getting harder to come by. A slowdown in oil refining during the pandemic has resulted in less availability of sulfur, a key input for the acid ...more

You know where they have a ton of sulphur to make sulphuric acid each and every day? The Gulf Coast Refining Complex in the US, and the oil sands upgraders and refiners in Alberta. So Nevada Copper and Copper Mountain are both nicely supplied with as much Sulphuric acid as they could ever want by their local neighbours.   Chile and Peru's Atacama region doesn't have a sour ...more

It is a good question to ask Rich at NCU. How does the company source suphuric acid and from whom?  Is it via a long term contract and, if so, how priced? If buying short term, is there a supply chain risk?

During the height of the pandemic there was no sulfuric acid to be had anywhere. Most of it comes from Mexico and the big copper mines who sell surplus into the general market.  Not having acid then shut down many projects so in answer to your question...yes, it absolutely can suffer supply disruptions.
