why the down trend

Does anyone have any insight on why the IPP stocks are trending down ahead of a BOC rate cut?  I would think that a cut of 0.25% woudl be beneficial and the emerging view of a 0.5% cut would increase prices on utility stocks.  Any thoughts?

I figured I'd add further thoughts and questions.  I now suspect the decline in NPI might be caution ahead of the US election for a couple of reasons.  First might be that a Trump win (seeing signs this is becoming more likely than not) could rekindle inflation.  If so the the current cycle of declining rates, which I was hoping would benefit NPI, would stall.  The other ...more

Donald Trump doesn't support forcing people to buy EV's with government handouts. FYI inflation in the US spiked under the Biden/Harris cabal.  Should Donald Trump win the election , Justine Trudeau  will have to hide in his safe space. .

I read the TD report and it did provide a better explanation for the lower values,e.g. the high payout ratio of NPI. It reminded me that there are multiple factors that affec the stock price (duh).  Subsequently I saw reference to a National Bank analysis indicating that IPP prices were unjustifiably low, and today/yesterday another TD report commenting on the possibility of IRA effects on ...more

Rusty - did you see the additional commentary in TD, which had an article by David Berman on this theme.  His general point was that alt energy stock prices are dictated by things other than the political cycle.  His analysis of past patterns (up during Trumpian times of 2016-20) then down during Biden' time (2020-24).  The latter was largely an interest rate effect caused by ...more
