Renewables against O&G

BNP ParisBas has it's say Wells, wires and Wheels
In 25 years time crude oil break even will be ~$10.

RuudinFrance I think you misread the report, it pretty much estimate when doomsday of oil will be finilized... They stated that breakeven not will be $10, but needed to be to compete against renewable. Which is pretty much impossible (there is graph with ever growing oil CAPEX), That means oil won't be even remotely competitive quite soon. Supersceptic, from a semantic point of view, you're completely right. Your "needed to be" was an omission from my side. I meant to say what you said better :-) The report even states it clearly: "4.2 EROCI IMPLIES GASOLINE NEEDS OIL BREAK-EVENS OF $9-10/BBL OVER LONG TERM". My bad. NeverStopAsking. Yes, the reports like this has been around, but this one comes from major oil company. They are not denying shift anymore. Some of them will decide that "if you cannot beat them, join them". Our future partner might be not SQM or Mercedes, but BP or Exxon... The more the better.

Oh yes, I did enjoy report. Thank you. Oil industry feel comfortable now, but I think they start to feel some pressure. Overall, the decline will be gradual, because the more renewables are in play, the less demand for oil, but also no pressure on them to develop new expensive fields. So, oil prices can go down, without losing profitability and that will slow down spread of renewables. At the ...more
