Private retail in Ontario disappoints big time

Another delay till April and here is the result. Or the first wave of the result.

It's amazing how anti-business Canadian politicians are. You're drowning in debt, just let the people make money already - you already made sure you get the lion share for doing nothing! Yet there's more "protectthechirren" virtue signaling on twitter and delays (half a year, no less - like it ain't possible to make a list of rules sooner).

I am fairly certain that Canadian legalization will end up in economic textbooks in the "how-not-to-do-things" section. Circus with clowns.

A 6-month delay in Ontario. Very disappointing. The entire weed sector took a further beating today following that announcement. It caught pretty well everyone off guard. I knew it was going to be a bad day when the pre-opening bids/asks for WEED were well below yesterday's close...and it was downhill all day from there. On the bright side....most provinces are ready to go on the 17th of ...more

Not too sure if everyone reading the news really got the message correct.  The sale of MJ in Ont is NOT DELAYED.  The delay is to private retail, brick and mortar, ONT will commence sales on Oct 17, just like everyone else, but decided to just start with online: "On Monday afternoon, Ontario’s Progressive Conservative government, which took power at the end of June, announced& ...more

Opps... actually I just glanced at the WEED report... think I would hold off on that daytrade plan now.. pretty sure the .40c per share loss isn't going to go over well in the morning...  would be better to watch for a new bottom or place a lowball buy

We all have pretty good reading comprehension skills. We know what's delayed and what's not. Do NOT compare Canopy and Newstrike. Ever. One is the biggest weed company in the world with international supply agreements and access to cheap financing. The other is already at the bottom and dragging feet. Top 3 are most overvalued, obviously but they are not going away no matter what. Small ...more

well they started somewhere as well Jan 2016 they were at a $1.81and I agree you can not compare Canopy to newstrike at this moment in time.

Yes everyone started somewhere but in this race you start only once. It's the past 12 months that made all the difference. Jay didn't want to bother with medical play, but medical play allowed Canopy (and others) to expand internationally and will be their bridge to international recreational sales once those countries catch up on the laws. Those supply agreements are guaranteed revenue no ...more

Yes a ray of hope!        thank Constellation.   bid/ask $41.    maybe a better day!

on my phone so if someone else could post the news constellation is investing 5 billion and will own 38 percent of weed buying shares at 48.5 or so

Constellation Brands is upping its bet on the cannabis industry, announcing an additional $4 billion stake in Canopy Growth on Wednesday. The maker of Corona and Modelo beers in October took a 9.9 percent stake in the Canadian cannabis company. The deal included the option for future investments, giving Constellation a first toehold in an industry the brewer said it expects to soon be ...more

Yup, you're right.  I've been trying to modify how I look at POT stocks as validations don't seem to get much credit on these (HIP being a prime example...).  When I looked at Canopy I seen good revenue numbers, which traditionally would get me excited but I thought investors would be more focused on the loss per share which would result in an early day selloff then a good ...more

an lot of valid points have been raised.. but in spite of HIP having done less than others the cash does cast a vote... and its a strong vote.... It all comes down to the sector I feel.. The upside here is not only will you get a sector lift but should the company surprise with a strong nr this will get lit on fire... Just my take.. these levels are far too good for me to sit on my hands
