Stock Market Shifts into Small Caps
July 19, 2024 - Through the first half of this year, large caps carried the market. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 outperformed small caps (Solactive 2000) by more than 16% and 18%, respectively. Since the midpoint, however, the tables have turned. Small caps have rallied over 9%, compared to just over 2% for the S&P 500 and less than 1% for the Nasdaq 100.

small caps can gain 50% in 2024, and given the category is up only 6% so far, there is plenty to go.

Investors have been waiting for the market’s wealth, concentrated to this point on large-cap stocks, to extend to mid-cap and small-cap issues. In July, small stocks came to the forefront. Over the first half of July, the Russell 2000 Small-Cap Index gained 10.59%, compared to 3.84% for the large-cap S&P 500. “With prospects of Fed rate cuts on the horizon, we’re seeing at least a short-term pivot into smaller stocks,” says Haworth.

The shift of markets into small caps applies to ONCY while issues involved in global warming, etc. does not! unless you are an energy or ming trader seeking to ply your views here!

Canadian energy & mining traders have sought to ply their narrowly focused views here. ONCY has now sourced alternative perspectives that apply to ONCY's overall global mission in the treatment of specialized diseases states - and not oil and gas !

The healthcare sector has a history of stability and outperformance during periods of both recession and inflation, however with the issues of patent expiration facing Big Pharma, their focus is M&A smaller biotech companies for growth and to help outperform the general market which the oil and gas traders on this message board are lamenting over.

Today was the biggest one-day drop for Big Tech companies since market data began grouping them in 2015. - Nvidia dropped a huge 14 percent at the start of market trading in New York while the dip wiped off around 360 billion in market cap, making it the biggest one day drop in history.

August 05, 2024 - Why Fund Managers Fell Behind The Small Cap Rally Fund managers were caught off guard. “Funds were heavily underweight Small Size and High Dividend Yield, two of the top performing factors last month, and overweight Momentum, one of the biggest laggards,” wrote BofA Securities analysts in a note Monday.
